OFF-LEASH ETIQUETTE

Every owner probably wants to let the dog run freely while walking, so that he can fully enjoy the movement and explore the surroundings. However, such a walk is not possible with every dog. And that's why before you let your partner out, make sure you have a leash-free tag in your little finger and paw.

A REALLY RELIABLE SUMMON

The first and most important rule of dog freedom is a well-trained recall. If you can yell out your vocal cords when calling and then when the dog finally comes in, slap one on his bottom to make him remember, you still need to work on that command. Good recall is practiced throughout the dog's life and has a simple basis - the dog should like to come back to you.

TEACH YOUR DOG TO WATCH YOU

Taking the dog off the leash must not mean that the dog gets dusty and you meet again in an hour at the front door. You should not lose sight of your furry friend. But it will be much more practical if you teach your dog that he must not lose sight of you. How? Be unpredictable, change the direction of the walks and the regular route, and give your pet a treat every now and then for moving around in your presence.

You can try these for example semi-soft goodies that neither you nor your dog will miss when thrown on the pavement:

DON'T LET HIM DO WHAT HE WANTS

A responsible owner knows that freedom of movement doesn't mean rules go away. Both the obvious ones, when you shouldn't let your dog jump on strangers or steal snacks from picnic blankets, but also the less obvious and observed ones, such as that the dog shouldn't pee on other people's flower beds or that we should pick up after our pet really collect all the berries.

BETTER STAY AWAY FROM OTHER DOGS

"He's nice, he's friends with everyone," should not be a pass for contact with a strange dog. It is only information for the owner of a strange dog and it should be left to his discretion if the dogs should meet each other. Don't let your friendly dog run after other dogs - and especially not after those on a leash or in a basket. Not everyone deserves attention.

DO NOT LOOK THROUGH YOUR FINGERS AT LEAD DOGS

Your canine partner may be a calm, unfazed dog who faithfully clings to your leg, so you don't even think about why he should be on a leash. But a dog is a different situation. Be tolerant and respect the decisions of others.

If you don't feel comfortable with off-leash walks yet or want to try them with a "safeguard", invest in trackers . This long leash is designed to crawl on the ground without snagging. If necessary, it can be easily stepped on.
