BASIC DOG HANDLING OR WHAT YOU SHOULD TEACH THEM FOR YOUR PROBLEM-FREE CO-EXISTENCE

You cannot avoid handling the dog during your cohabitation, on the contrary, it is part of the daily routine. Whether it's wiping paws after a walk, trimming claws, combing fur, checking eyes, ears and teeth, or treating minor injuries. In most cases, any manipulation is stressful for dogs without previous training, and thus it is also stressful for their owners, because their fur will show them their displeasure properly. In this article, let's talk about how to teach a dog to handle all manipulation calmly and stress-free.

WE START FROM A PUPPY

Have you brought home a cute little puppy? Then it's high time, in addition to playing and cuddling, also for training. It's absolutely simple. All you have to do is touch the dog on different parts of his body from the beginning so that he knows that it is completely normal.

Reach for him, check his eyes, reach for his ears, lay the dog on his side, pick him up in your arms. And above all, don't forget to praise and reward him properly every time! Your reward will then be a beautifully manageable adult who will have a positive attitude to any manipulation.

COMMANDS, COMMANDS AND MORE COMMANDS

In order for the dog to cooperate calmly, he must know what we are going to do with him. You can't just walk up to him and pick him up in your arms, for example, without him getting startled. We have to warn the dog in advance, and therefore you should best assign an individual command to each manipulation. For example, "ears", "eyes", "teeth", "up", "paws", "to the side", etc.

Repeating the mother of wisdom. Even if the dog already handles the commands without any problems, practice them regularly, even so that he can handle this manipulation with a person other than just his owner (it will be very useful at the vet or at exhibitions).

BUT WHAT WHEN WE START TO TEACH AN ADULT?

When training basic manipulation with an adult dog, train slowly and carefully. Practice ideally after a good walk, when the dog is tired and start by slowly stroking different parts of the body. For example, by stroking the paws, slowly progress to checking them. Praise and treats doubly so in this case!
