Leather is one of the oldest materials that mankind works with. The first evidence and its modification date back to 7 thousand years ago. It is also popular among contemporary dog owners. High-quality collars, leashes or harnesses are very pleasant for owners and dogs, they look good and last a long time. How to take care of them so that they serve you as long as possible?
WAX FOR LONGER DURABILITY
When walking your dog, you cannot avoid mechanical wear or soiling of the leash. Nevertheless, pay more attention to leather products. Do not rub or scratch them unnecessarily. You can easily remove dirt with, for example, an ordinary, uncolored eraser. Never wash dirty leather products in a washing machine or dry them in a dryer. Instead, gently rub the skin with soapy water in a circular motion and let it dry freely. Do not dry it on radiators or in direct sunlight. Last but not least, regularly impregnate leather products with, for example, wax. The more the collar or leash comes into contact with water and dirt, the more care you should take in its impregnation.
Leather treated in this way can handle heavy loads and the product will not be damaged by even a single scratch. This is a big advantage over synthetic materials. What about leather that ages? In a number of articles, you will learn that leather does not belong in compost. However, these are mainly leftovers from the kitchen, where there is a risk of transferring and spreading bacteria. You don't have to worry about this problem with a product that has been used for years. You can easily return the leather leash free of metal parts back to nature.
