Safety · Visibility in the dark

Illuminated and reflective dog collars

In the dark, it's good for your dog to be seen before a problem even arises. A light-up collar emits its own light and is recognizable even from a great distance, while reflective elements reflect car headlights and flashlights.

If you mainly walk your dog near a road or early in the morning, opt for active lights. For walks at dusk, a reflective accessory is often sufficient. For each product, we state the power source and size to help you choose correctly the first time.

When visibility pays off

When will you appreciate a light-up collar

01

Morning and evening walks in winter

From autumn to spring, you're practically walking in the dark outdoors. A driver or cyclist will spot you dozens of meters sooner if your dog is illuminated.

02

Walks by the road or bike path

An active LED light is more reliable than a mere reflector because it emits its own light and is visible from all sides.

03

Forest, field, and free roaming

When the dog runs into the trees, the light spot will help you keep track of them.

04

Hunting and work in low visibility conditions

A reflective vest in a signal color will separate the dog from its surroundings even during the day in fog.

Own light

Luminous collars and leash

See even where there is nothing to reflect

Illuminated collars emit their own light, so they don't need any external source for their visibility. They are suitable wherever there is real darkness or traffic.

Reflected Light

Reflective vests and belts

Lightweight, maintenance-free, no charging needed

Reflective elements don't glow on their own – they reflect light that falls on them, whether it's car headlights, a headlamp, or a street light. For dim light and lighter traffic, they are often more than enough. For example, the vast majority of HUNTER harnesses already come with reflective elements from the manufacturer.

How to decide

LED or reflective elements?

01

Active LED light

It glows on its own and is visible regardless of the surroundings. A safer choice where there is complete darkness and traffic - typically by the road or on unlit paths.

Roads, traffic, and complete darkness.

02

Reflective elements

They reflect the light that hits them. They stand out in dim light and in places where there is something to reflect. They are lightweight and do not need charging.

Quieter routes at dusk.

Hint

The best coverage is both.

LED and reflective elements are not mutually exclusive; on the contrary, they complement each other. Many owners combine an LED collar for active visibility with a reflective strip or vest as a backup in case the light's battery dies.

Size

How to choose the right size

Measure the collar according to the circumference of the neck where the dog usually wears it - with a tape measure or a string, which you then place against a ruler. Two fingers should fit between the collar and the neck: neither loose nor tight.

For both illuminated and reflective models, we provide the size range in the description, so you can easily check if they will fit your dog.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the LED collar light up?

Battery life varies according to the model and selected mode (constant light vs. flashing). You can find the specific value in the description of the respective product.

Is the light-up collar waterproof?

For most models, yes, for everyday walks in the rain without worry. The exact protection (e.g., splash water resistance) is stated by the manufacturer for each specific product.

Is a reflective collar enough?

For dusk and less frequented routes, usually yes. On the road and in complete darkness, an active LED light is safer, ideally in combination with a reflective element.

Is a light-up collar suitable for small dogs too?

Yes. For smaller breeds, a lightweight light pendant is often more practical than a full collar, so as not to unnecessarily burden the dog.

Can I use the light-up collar every day?

Yes, that's exactly what they're designed for. For rechargeable models, it's worth checking after each walk whether the light has enough power and doesn't need to be charged.
